House moves are permitted again from 13th May 2020. The changes were announced in the lockdown regulations presented to Parliament on Tuesday.
EHL Conveyancing has continued to handle conveyancing matters during the lockdown period within the parameters set out by Parliament, but these change today to enable house moves. For the last few weeks, buyers had been asked to delay house moves, and some elements of the house buying process had been impacted, such as valuations or surveys.
We have already seen an increase in activity based on the announcement yesterday. As construction workers are asked to return to work, new build sites are now looking to complete properties and complete sales. Show homes are allowed to open.
Estate agents are allowed to resume their services, as are removal businesses.
If you are buying a house, you are now permitted to visit the house to prepare it for moving in. Viewings of properties are also permitted.
Zoopla had estimated around that 373,000 property sales had been put on hold during lockdown.
Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said those "waiting patiently to move can now do so" as long as it is carried out under social distancing and safety rules. The intention is to allow people "to move home safely, covering each aspect of the sales and letting process, from viewings to removals".
All of the above relaxations are subject to the overriding rules on self-distancing and it may take some time for people to adapt to the relaxation of rules.
EHL Conveyancing are well placed to assist in your house move, please drop us an email or obtain a no-obligation free quote online and we would be delighted to help get you moving.
